Here's the new promo for Lost (from Spain)

We aren't getting too many promos for the last season of Lost from ABC (and zero new footage), but this promo from Spain is pretty damn cool. It's hard to see if there's any new footage (I don't think there is), but it's very well done.

New TV on DVD releases this week

MST3K DVDHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

It's funny how there are some weeks where there's 20 or so different DVD sets released but I won't see any sets that I want. And then there are weeks like this when there are only a handful of DVDs being released but I somehow want two or three of them.

The new Mystery Science Theater 3000 set (with The Corpse Vanishes, Warrior of the Lost World, Night of the Blood Beast, Santa Claus, two shorts, four lobby cards, and a collectible Tom Servo figurine) is a definite, and I might get Better Off Ted too, though I want to watch a few more episodes before I make up my mind.

  • Ben 10: Alien Swarm
  • Better Off Ted - Season 1
  • The Donna Reed Show - Season 3
  • Mental - Season 1
  • Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Vol. XVI (Limited Edition)
  • Saturday Night Live - Season 5

Five tips for when you find yourself in front of Judge Judy

Judge JudyI've been watching Judge Judy again. I used to watch it years ago, but then I went through a long period (years) when I thought she was too mean, too full of herself, too impatient with the litigants. Sometimes it seems that she's already sick of them before she even sits down.

But I started watching it again a few months ago and I love it again. I agree with her attitude now. Most of the people who go in front of her (both plaintiffs and defendants) usually get themselves into situations they shouldn't be in and they have no sense. And you wonder why they even want to be on TV in the first place, airing their dirty laundry.

But if you do find yourself on the show, here are five tips to make it a better experience.

1. Speak up. If you mumble she'll think you're dumb and/or hiding something. And she's probably right.

Remember that Heroes death? It happens tonight!

HeroesWarning! Spoiler ahead!

We were told several weeks ago that a major character was going to be killed off of Heroes soon. Of course, Heroes has a way of killing off characters and then they come back in one way or another: didn't really die, saved by time travel, had a twin, another person takes over their body, etc, etc. But this major character's death is going to be permanent, and it happens in tonight's episode, "The Fifth Stage."

Star Trek + different theme music = Space: 1969

You've probably never thought "what would the opening of Star Trek been like if it was done in the style of Space: 1999?" Luckily, there are other people to think of things like that for you, including the person who made this mash-up of Trek and the theme/opening of Space: 1999.

Michael Bublé sings the least popular standards on The Late Show

This is from a few weeks ago, but I think it's worth posting. Letterman's "Top Ten" list can often be hit or miss (sometimes just miss) but the show hits a home run with this one. It's Michael Bublé singing the top ten least popular standards.

Is Modern Family one of the ten best shows of the decade?

Modern FamilyNext month, everyone here at TV Squad will be giving their picks for the best TV shows of the '00s (zeros? aughts?). One critic has the jump on us and has picked his ten, and ABC's new sitcom Modern Family is one of them.

I'm not sure how this can be. I mean, I like it OK, but has it been around long enough to put it on the list of the best TV shows of the past ten years? To be fair, he picks some shows I definitely think should be in the running, including The West Wing, Mad Men, 30 Rock, Lost, and The Sopranos, but I think there are a lot of shows we could pick to go in the number ten spot where Modern Family sits.

Last month I did a post on how a lot of critics think the show is one of the ten best of the year, and I said that although I find the show good I don't yet find it great. So that means I certainly wouldn't have it on my list of the decade's best. How about you?

This winter, make sure you have the right car battery (or just take the bus)

This commercial shows the ultimate nightmare that we all have when it comes to parking our cars on icy streets: some goofball coming down a hill and hitting a bunch of cars. It's a well-done ad, from the two guys watching the car from the balcony to the scenes of the guy running down the stairs to get to his car. There's even something really believable about the apartment building and the lobby.

Will our hero get to his car in time?
